I have been toying with the idea of a career break since the start of working life. It’s been almost 3 years in the rat race and I can’t wait to get off. I still can’t reconcile the fact that we would need to work for the rest of our lives. What for? Money? More money? How much is enough?
Yet, the unemployment rate in Singapore has been on the rise. This is the main deterrent for my decision to go on a break. Having experienced difficulty finding my first job, I am afraid that periods of “non-productivity” would affect future job prospects. Also, the above-average-all-Singaporeans environment is very comfortable (though it can get boring).
A girl I have been following on Instagram just finished her half a year break in Southeast Asia. She and her boyfriend managed to travel the region with less than 500USD per month. Tempting much?
